Assessment Review Boards adjudicate on all property assessment complaints made by property owners concerning assessments made by the Yukon government. Assessment Review Boards are established throughout the Yukon on an as-required annual basis.

An Assessment Review Board:

  • hears and adjudicates on all assessment complaints made to it pursuant to the Act in respect of real property in the territorial jurisdiction of the Assessment Review Board; and
  • investigates and adjudicates on assessments, classes of assessments and assessment rolls in its territorial jurisdiction as the Assessment Review Board considers necessary to ensure that the assessments and assessment rolls are equitable and that they represent fairly the assessment values provided for by the Act.

An Assessment Review Board has original jurisdiction to determine all questions respecting the revision of an assessment roll and the adjudication of complaints with respect thereto. All questions respecting the revision of an assessment roll and the deciding of any complaints with respect thereto are decided by a majority of the votes of the members sitting.
