The Northern Forum's Ninth General Assembly

The Ninth General Assembly of the Northern Forum was held in Whitehorse, Yukon from September 1 to 3, 2009.

Regional governments from 17 countries attended the gathering. A meeting of the Forum of Global Associations of Regions (FOGAR) was held concurrently with the General Assembly.

On the final day of meetings, the delegates released the Whitehorse Declaration .

The declaration was signed by Northern Forum members with Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie signing on behalf of the Yukon government.

A record of progress made at the Northern Forum, the declaration strengthens the organization’s commitment to improving the quality of life for northern peoples and identifies new projects and areas for cooperation.

At the general assembly, the Government of Yukon was nominated as co-chair for a two-year term along with the Government of Nunavut which joined the Northern Forum this year.
