Yukon government photo: Former Council of Yukon First Nations Grand chief Andy Carvill and Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie at the September 2009 Yukon Forum.
The Yukon Forum was created in 2005 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding involving the Council of Yukon First Nations, the Yukon government and self-governing Yukon First Nations.
In 2006, the Yukon Forum was formally established upon passage of the Cooperation in Governance Act. This legislation received the support of all parties in the Yukon Legislative Assembly and recognizes that First Nation and the Yukon governments both have jurisdiction and authority over many similar matters.
Senior officials from participating governments work together throughout the year and have developed strong government-to-government working relationships. The officials research and develop mutual agenda items and initiatives.
