Mandate

To investigate and assess options related to the priorities for electoral reform identified by Yukoners. Prepare a final report with recommendations responding to these priorities. This report will be tabled by the Minister in the fall 2019 sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly.  

Period: May 2019 to late fall 2019

Membership
The Minister of Executive Council Office appoints at least 3 members including 1 chair. 

Appointment process: Ministerial appointment

Requirements: Due to the independent and non-partisan nature of the commission, any member of the public is welcome to submit their resume for consideration with the exception of:

  • Paid employees of territorial political parties; and
  • Members of the Legislative Assembly and paid employees of the offices of Members of the Legislative Assembly.

The selection process will look for the following desired qualifications, with best efforts being made to reflect the cultural, regional, and other diversity of Yukon:

  • Experience with, or knowledge of, the broader public policy context of democratic or electoral engagement
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, using research, public input, or other evidence to provide advice or make recommendations to decision makers
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, building networks or fostering relationships with Yukon communities
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of teamwork
  • Demonstrates an ability to apply critical thinking and to problem-solve

Term: Estimated six months but no later than December 31, 2019.

 

Meetings: Meetings will be held as required for the commission to fulfill its mandate. Teleconference and video-conference attendance is permitted. We expect an estimated eight days of remunerated work per commissioner per month for six months. Some travel may be required but all eligible expenses will be covered. A secretariat will provide administrative and research support to the commission.
