Mandate

Help resolve outfitting quota disputes faced by Yukon outfitters by providing recommendations to the Minister of Environment.

The objectives are:

  • to review harvest quota for individual outfitting concessions at the request of the registered outfitter; and
  • to ensure that the harvest quotas for outfitting concessions are fair and unbiased for outfitters, other harvesters and the Yukon public, and are consistent with the Guidelines to Establish Outfitter Quotas.

The duties are:

  • to be available to review the quotas of any outfitter who feels that his/her assigned quotas are unfair, or who cannot reach agreement on his/her quotas within 90 days of commencing meetings with the Renewable Resources Councils or the local committee, and Government officials;
  • to hear testimony from the affected outfitter, the local Renewable Resources Council or local committee, and the Department of Environment on the quotas in question; and
  • to make its recommendations to the Minister of Environment within 30 days of the hearing testimony.

Authority: Established as a result of a Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board recommendation to the Minister. Government approved the establishment of this Committee.

Membership

There are 3 members appointed by the Yukon government and the Chair is nominated and appointed by the membership.

  • 1 member is nominated by the Yukon Outfitters Association,
  • 1 member is nominated jointly by the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board and Renewable Resources Councils, and
  • 1 member is nominated by the other 2 members.

Appointment process: Ministerial appointment

Requirements: Members cannot be outfitters, Yukon government employees, Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board or Renewable Resources Council members or be in a position of conflict of interest.

Term: 3 years.

Meetings: As required.
