December 2016 Whitehorse Consumer Price Index

  • Comparing December 2016 to December 2015, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 1.6% in Whitehorse (data are not available for Yukon). Whitehorse’s year-over-year CPI change for the month of December was 0.1 percentage point higher than the change for Canada (1.5%).
  • The increase in Whitehorse CPI was mainly attributable to price increases in: gasoline; inter-city transportation; and furniture. Some of these increases were offset by price decreases in: fuel oil and other fuels; fresh or frozen pork; and cereal products (excluding baby food).
  • On a monthly basis, the CPI in Whitehorse remained the same between November 2016 and December 2016; nationally, the CPI decreased 0.2%.

On an annual average basis, the CPI in Whitehorse in 2016 increased by 1.0%; Canada’s annual average CPI increased by 1.4%.
