Retail sales

Retail sales statistics are taken from the Monthly Retail Trade Survey, one of several business surveys conducted by Statistics Canada. It generates estimates that measure the economic activity of Canada.

Monthly retail sales data are included in our Monthly Statistical Review.

May 2019 Yukon Retail Sales

  • The preliminary estimate (seasonally unadjusted) for retail sales in Yukon for May 2019 was $83.3 million, an increase of $5.1 million, or 6.5%, compared to May 2018. The May 2019 retail sales figure increased by $13.5 million, or 19.3%, compared to April 2019.
  • Nationally, preliminary retail sales (seasonally unadjusted) increased 1.0% in May 2019 compared to May 2018, and increased 13.5% compared to April 2019.
  • On a year-to-date basis (January to May), retail sales (seasonally unadjusted) in Yukon totalled $325.3 million. This represents an increase of $15.6 million, or 5.0%, compared to the same time period in 2018 ($309.7 million). Canada’s year-to-date retail sales increased 2.3% over this time period.

On an annual basis, unadjusted retail sales for 2018 in Yukon totalled $837.5 million. This represents an increase of $37.9 million, or 4.7%, compared to figures for 2017 ($799.5 million). Canada’s retail sales increased 2.9% compared to 2017.
