Retail sales

Retail sales statistics are taken from the Monthly Retail Trade Survey, one of several business surveys conducted by Statistics Canada. It generates estimates that measure the economic activity of Canada.

Monthly retail sales data are included in our Monthly Statistical Review.

May 2018 Yukon Retail Sales

  • The preliminary estimate (seasonally unadjusted) for retail sales in Yukon for May 2018 was $77.0 million, an increase of $3.6 million, or 4.8%, compared to May 2017. The May 2018 retail sales figure increased $12.3 million, or 19.1%, compared to April 2018.
  • Nationally, preliminary retail sales (seasonally unadjusted) increased 5.3% in May 2018 compared to May 2017, and increased 16.8% compared to April 2018.
  • On a year-to-date basis (January to May), retail sales (seasonally unadjusted) in Yukon totalled $313.0 million. This represents an increase of $19.4 million, or 6.6%, compared to the same time period in 2017 ($293.5 million). Canada’s year-to-date retail sales increased 3.6% over this time period.

On an annual basis, retail sales (seasonally unadjusted) in Yukon for 2017 totalled $799.5 million. This represents an increase of $48.4 million, or 6.4%, compared to 2016 ($751.1 million). Canada’s annual retail sales increased 7.1% over this time period.
