Retail sales

Retail sales statistics are taken from the Monthly Retail Trade Survey, one of several business surveys conducted by Statistics Canada. It generates estimates that measure the economic activity of Canada.

Monthly retail sales data are included in our Monthly Statistical Review.

April 2017 Yukon Retail Sales

  • The preliminary unadjusted estimate for retail sales in Yukon for April 2017 was $61.2 million. This represents an increase of $416,000, or 0.7% compared to April 2016, and a decrease of $545,000, or 0.9%, compared to March 2017.
  • Nationally, retail sales (unadjusted) increased 4.5% in April 2017 compared to April 2016, and increased 3.6% compared to March 2017.
  • On a year-to-date basis (January to April), unadjusted retail sales in Yukon totalled $220.8 million. This represents an increase of $6.5 million, or 3.0%, compared to the same time period in 2016 ($214.3 million). Canada’s year-to-date retail sales increased 5.5% over this time period.

On an annual basis, unadjusted retail sales for 2016 in Yukon totalled $744.8 million. This represents an increase of $49.4 million, or 7.1%, compared to 2015 ($695.4 million). Canada’s retail sales increased 5.1% compared to 2015.
