January 2020 Whitehorse Consumer Price Index

  • Comparing January 2020 to January 2019, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 3.7% in Whitehorse (data are not available for Yukon). Whitehorse’s year-over-year CPI change for the month of January was
    1.3 percentage points higher than that for Canada (2.4%).
  • The year-over-year increase in Whitehorse CPI for the month of January 2020 was mainly attributable to price increases in: electricity; gasoline; and rent. Some of these increases were offset by price decreases
    in: telephone services; recreational equipment and services (excluding recreational vehicles); and household appliances. 
  • On a monthly basis, the CPI in Whitehorse increased 0.7% in January 2020 compared to December 2019; nationally, the CPI increased 0.3%.

On an annual average basis, the CPI in Whitehorse in 2019 increased by 2.0%; Canada’s 2019 annual average CPI increased by 1.9%.
