Types of internal audit

Performance audit

A systematic assessment of how well government is managing its activities, responsibilities and resources. Management practices, controls, and reporting systems are examined with a focus at looking at results /effectiveness.

Compliance audit

Reviews and determines the degree of adherence with laws, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. 

Operational audit

The use of resources and procedures / practices in the area being audited are reviewed to determine if goals and objectives are being met in the most effective and efficient manner.

Information technology audit

Evaluates the internal controls related to the management of information technology environments and related infrastructure, applications and data. The evaluation / audit determines if the information systems are safeguarding assets, maintaining data integrity, and operating effectively to achieve the government’s goals and objectives.
