Mandate

The Council makes recommendations to Yukon government and each affected Yukon First Nation on the following:

  • land use planning, including policies, goals and priorities, in the Yukon;
  • the identification of planning regions and priorities for the preparation of regional land use plans;
  • the general terms of reference, including timeframes, for each Regional Land Use Planning Commission;
  • the boundary of each planning region; and
  • such other matters as Yukon government and each affected Yukon First Nation may agree.

Period: May 29, 1993 and dependant on date of Final Agreement to present

Membership

The Minister appoints 1 nominee of the Council of Yukon First Nations, 1 nominee of Government of Canada and 1 nominee of Yukon government.

Appointment process: Ministerial appointment

Requirements: Yukon residents and not delegates of the parties who nominate or appoint them.

Term: 3 years. Any appointment replacing a member whose term has not expired will be for the unexpired portion of that term.

Meetings: An annual meeting with the chairpersons of all Yukon regional land use planning commissions at minimum.
